Find your way by moonlight

Sunday 13 April 2014

This post has veered between Uriah Heep and Gwyneth-at-the-Oscars, so I'm giving up.  Not my most eloquent hour, but there you go.  It's finished and it's here. Thank you for your patience and all the fabulous comments.

If you want to read it, I will be thrilled to bits.  I hope you like it.  I'm off for a lie down.  And cake.

    2. You win a cake for spotting that, as well as demonstrating why you were in the acknowledgements! - I spotted another and have had an amusing morning swearing at the screen - I was definitely not cut out to be a techie. Hope you like it anyway.

    1. Joelle, so pleased you liked that - sorry it starts with such a glum tale - it gets happier! So far it's just kindle but you can get an app and download it onto most devices - even my husband has managed on his ancient phone! Email if you can't and I am very happy indeed to send you a copy to print out.

    2. DEVOURED in one fell swoop. A fine read, really enjoyed the language, and the way the characters (and Spirit of Ecstasy) are lightly stitched together through the stories. It adds a bit more depth and reminds me of how few degrees separate most people.

  8. Hello Elizabeth,

    How exciting this all is!

We have just read 1918 and are so impressed by your ability to capture the essence of people and places with such few words. You are indeed a mistress of the short story and we are certain that this collection will be compulsive reading. We are certainly going to obtain a copy.

You transported us there immediately, each of the characters beautifully drawn and deeply reminiscent for us of similar people we have known in our own lifetimes. We have always believed the short story to be one of the most difficult forms of literature but you handle it with a sureness of style and economy of language that is impressive and effective.

We wish you every success with this and future projects. Celebrate with a whole cake!

    1. Hello lovely people - embarrassingly the cake became two as my sister and I walked almost the whole of Richmond park in the sun so decided to treat ourselves. I am always so grateful for your feedback (I mentioned you in the acknowledgements, hope you don't mind) and this is such a generous kind comment.

May I trouble you for an email address for you both?

    1. You got it!! I have a VERY thrilled husband who made the final choice and is beaming with delight that it worked for you - if you could be remotely bothered to review it on kindle when you have a spare moment, I'd be beyond grateful. In the meantime, hope it was OK I mentioned you in the acknowledgements and thank you for these and all the kind supportive and encouraging comments you've left me over time. I am deeply grateful xx

  10. Thank so much to all of you, those who've read it, those who've send kind messages, left comments and generally been lovely. I hope I didn't leave anyone out of the acknowledgements and please please feel free to comment or email me any feedback at all, positive or otherwise; I'm always delighted to improve my writing so do know how grateful I am for all your thoughts.

Any rogue typos, full stops you spot, do please tell me; I cannot see the wood for the trees sometimes and if anyone would like to volunteer proof reading service, there's always a cake in the post - brown paper and string like they did in the war!
